Minnesota Grocers Association Offers Reusable Bags

55287The Minnesota Grocers Association is offering customers free, reusable grocery bags and encouraging them to add green to their routine.

The statewide effort, fueled by a partnership between the Minnesota Grocers Association and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, plans to distribute 10,000 reusable bags and inform consumers about how they can reduce waste and protect the environment.

Consumers may request a free reusable bag by completing a brief and confidential survey online at www.mngrocers.com.

The brown, handled bags, which are made of an environmentally-friendly canvas-like material, fold up and button closed, making them portable and easy to store. They’re also strong enough to handle heavy groceries. Grocers also are providing consumers with helpful tips for integrating reusable bags into their routines.

It’s nice that they’re helping reduce one-time bags, but I tried all last year, and just wasn’t able to get the hang of having the cats and dogs set of freebie bags I had collected with me when I needed them. They just sort of stayed in the car somehow, as much as I tried.

I found some that fit in my purse ( http://www.breezybags.com ) and I actually use these. I think it’s a psychological thing too. I mean, I paid like $17 bucks for these, and dang it, I’m going to use them! Maybe that’s the problem with my free ones. I didn’t have an investment in them, and they each had some goofy/different printing on them (the ones I bought are just a set of five beautiful violet nylon bags, without printing).
