Working in the green

Nowadays over half of our waking lives are spent working so it is very important that our office’s if there at home our in a large building that is filled with people everyday are still eco-friendly, the following is a range of things we can do on a daily basis that will help maintain a positive flow of green in the office place.

Firstly if working with a computer make sure it is set to sleep mode during the day for periods when you are away from the desk and always switch it of before leaving for the night. This helps to optimize your energy usage. It is a simple fact and yet often neglected, we should be cutting down on our paper usage, better yet order recycle paper and envelopes.

If possible bring your own food to work in reusable containers, it is the healthier option and also a lot less packing and waste.  Some examples are for your water instead of buying new bottles everyday bring your own reusable bottle or for tea and coffee how bring your own reusable mug? sandwiches packed in a plastic container is always a good idea.

When possible always go for the healthier option of walking to work and avoid the commute.

There are many products you can buy that could make your work place more eco – friendly

- water powered clocks and water powered calculators work of their own water batteries.

- Standby remote control which combines energy saving with the added luxury of switching your electrical devices on or off by remote control.

- An Efergy meter will encourage a reduction in electricity usage, as it gives real-time, instant and accurate reading of how much energy is being consumed which is vary valuable for the home or office.

Also for the laptop and computer user’s try out the eco button, a usb device that reminds the user everytime the computer is going to be left idle. When pressed it sends your computer into eco-mode. All this and more can help your office become clean and green.
