Full House Recycle for $100,000

recycled-home-200x300A homeowner in California has renovated his  2,250 sq ft family house and got a $100,000 tax write off as a result. How did he do it? By recycling, of course.

Mike Barry and his family didn’t have to throw much of the deconstructed house away. What they did was give every appliances, wood, flooring, roofing and even nails to nonprofit organizations.  These donations are going to be used to build new homes in Mexico.

According to this news, at least 80% of what was deconstructed will be used. The rest, the family has saved for their new home. Not a lot of the “waste” actually went to the landfill. In fact only some shards of asbestos was what the family could only throw away.

The homeowner and his family are obviously very happy with their decision. They will strive to live a green life by installing solar power and tankless heaters next.
