Eco Mirimichi Golf Course Is Opening July 25th
What is so special about the Eco Mirimichi Golf Course, aside from the fact that this $16 Million property is owned by celebrity, Justin Timberlake?
The singer-performer is such a golf enthusiast that when an opportunity to buy the old golf course where he used to play and learn the sport as a child, Timberlake did not think twice about refurbishing the property.
And then, as golf courses are notoriously known for not being environmentally-friendly, Timberlake was determined to make this one different and thus became the first golf course in the United States to earn the Audubon International’s Classic Sanctuary certification.
The eco golf course makes sure to “reuse and maximize the use of rainwater; native grass areas and waste bunkers reduce the amount of property that must be maintained; more lake areas and recirculating streams support wildlife; and, instead of equipment sheds, a “Natural Resource Management Center” has a biodegradable treatment of rinse water,” according to this article.
Additionally, the golf course will also make use of golf carts running on solar panels. There are even plans of erecting a LEED-certified clubhouse where food and beverages will be contained in biodegradable materials.
Back in October 2008, here’s what Timberlake said of the acquisition: “After we had the golf course we said why don’t we refurbish it and make it even nicer for the community. Then I asked questions about what we could possibly do, and we found out we could actually make it a “green course.”
The site opens on July 25th.
