How Green is My Town?!
It was announced today in a positive move by the government that four new Eco – towns are getting the go ahead after a long two year selection process. The choices have been narrowed down from 15 to 4, the 4 new towns will have up to 20,000 homes each and will be the first new towns actually built in britain for over 40 years. What better way to start building some new towns than a green friendly way, the new towns will be built with the highest standards possible with low and zero carbon technologies, proper state of the art recycling and water systems, also to add to the impressive list they will also contain great public transport, they are going to be really amazing towns to which ones should follow suit.
Gordon brown first announced this scheme back in 2007 ”Eco-towns will help to relieve the shortage of affordable homes to rent and buy and to minimise the effects of climate change on a major scale” the plan came to a start shortly after . The decision has been debated of course, many stating that it would not work, it is an Eco hoax and it would be generally unpopular. It has gone ahead however with the new towns in preparation mode.
It is a good move forward however with the current climate change status every bit of possible change is a good step forward and if this turns out to be a success then good. For more information on eco friendly towns check out this source
