Hybrid Yacht
While people are enjoying the luxury of Hybrid Cars and helping the environment, there is also a Yacht that is eco friendly.
The first Hybrid cars are powered by solar diesel and electricity.
The Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12m is reportedly the USA’s first ever hybrid yacht that debuted this October 30, 2008. The “DSe” from the yacht’s name came from its sources of energy – diesel, solar and electricity. The 40 feet yacht can travel its fastest, up to 13 knots, on diesel. Using its six kilowatt solar array, it could travel indefinitely (as long as there’s sun) up to a max speed of six knots while traveling solely by its battery could last a couple of hours before it runs out of juice.
While its eco-conscious efforts are obvious, the Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12m still retains various staples found in conventional yachts including plush rooms and top-of-the-line gadgetry such as navigation systems, high-tech kitchen devices, and of course, home theaters. Just like any other yacht though, this is something only the more affluent could afford – each Island Pilot DSe Hybrid 12m costs $600,000.
Today, there is also a new yacht which was recently promoted by Moochi Craft. Luxury Insider gives us a scoop of the hybrid yacht.
Mochi Craft, a brand under famous luxury yacht maker Ferretti Group, aims to change this when it unveiled what the company claims as the world’s first hybrid yacht at the 48th Salone Nautico Internazaionale (otherwise known as the Genoa Boat Show), which kicked off over the weekend.
The hybrid yacht, called the Long Range 23, is a 75-foot three deck motor yacht which features a hybrid propulsion system developed by Ferretti’s Advanced Yacht Technology (AYT) division.
This system allows the owner to regulate the yacht’s emissions depending on the sailing requirements through a diesel-electric engine combination. This, in effect, makes zero emissions possible when the boat is running on battery power, and has already earned her a RINA Green Star certification.
In addition, Ferretti’s engineers from AYT has built a high-tech hull for the Long Range 23 that improves hydrodynamic efficiency, reduces roll, and improves static stability, which means the boat will stay moored even in locations subject to tides.
So as to now I can say that there are really people who are very active in helping the environment.
