Timberlakes golf course opens!
The opening of the Mirimichi golf course which has been designed by singer Justin Timberlake has officially opened making it the first in the country to to be designated as a certified Audubon International Classic Sanctuary. Justin has originally saved the course from development after the original owner had quit on the project.“Originally it was called Woodstock Hills, and it was the first place my dad taught me to hit a ball,†claimed Timberlake in a recent interview, he has been an avid golfer ever since.
As a lifelong supporter of the environment and sustainable initiatives he decided to try and create the most Eco friendly golf course in the world and it seems that he may have just about succeeded. The project completion costed a heavy sum of over 16 million. Justin started by seeing how and what exactly is needed in order to turn a golf course Eco-Friendly.
One of the best facts in the making of this course is that  80 percent of the energy produced, 20 percent will be returned to the Tennessee Energy Grid. The 300-acre course features only 80-acres of mowed grass  leaving the rest to transition back to native species. Weeds have also been picked by hand and organic or slow release products . Apparently plans are also on the way to build greenhouses to help the native species and provide education for those interested in wildlife and horticulture.
That is really one impressive golf course and some much needed assistance for the area of Mirmichi. Gold being such a popular sport we can hope that more course will follow suit.
