PACT: Earth Friendly Underwear
Two UC Berkley students, Jason Kibbey and Jeff Denby, are the brains behind PACT underwear, which is underwear made from cotton and elastene. It’s the elastene that makes it different from any other type of underwear made from organic materials as those actually lose their shape and elasticity after a couple of wear. PACT is of a different kind. With 5% of elastene only, it is still an organic item and your underwear stays in shape for a longer time.
Production of a PACT underwear, according to the site, is devoid of any ink or dies, nor bleach (for bright white undies). Their items are guaranteed to pass GOTS or EKO standards.
The garments are packed in reusable fabric bag which you can use to put other items like gadgets. Even shipping the item maintains some form of eco-consciousness as the underwear is packed using 100% compostable container and adhesive.
Here’s the literature about their production:
” the farmers and cotton pickers involved in the growing and harvesting of the organic cotton were paid a fair price for their product. All fabric is dyed and printed using dyes and inks that are low-impact and free of heavy metals. Before it is shipped to PACT’s fulfillment center in Illinois, every element that goes into making your PACT underwear – growing the cotton, processing and spinning it, knitting or weaving, dyeing and printing, and cutting and sewing the final garment – occurs within a 100-mile radius in Turkey.”
Buying a set will help some non-profit green groups like ForestEarth and Oceana, two organizations working to conserve natural resourses in these habitats, as a part of the proceeds go to these.
