EcoATM for Recycling Cellphones

ecoatm_kiosk_y090910_270x474Kudos to this great idea!

This EcoATM may be found in the Nebraska area, specifically, the Nebraska Furniture Mart and it’s going to make recycling cellphones a lot easier. All you have to do is just toss the gadget inside the machine and then instantly receive in-store trade up or a gift card from a store.

The machine inspects the phone and then either assigns it a corresponding market value or sends it straight to the recycling bin.

The machine is already in operation since the end of September and is from the company formerly called ReMobile. It will soon find its way in San Diego, Texas, Washington and Vermont and will eventually be able to accept other gadgets for recycling.

Says its Vice President: “Today, a used consumer electronic goes into your drawer or garage, sits there until it decays to zero value, and then goes into a landfill. We want to change that paradigm so it’s more like car. When you’re done with a car you don’t just put it in your garage and leave it to rot.”
