A Greener Autumn Season

Autumn With the weather cooling and the nights getting longer, it signifies only one thing — the colder seasons  are already here. Is your home ready for the changes?

Here are a few tips to make your house green and ready this season:

To save on money, bring out the old jackets from the cabinet. You don’t have to necessarily to buy new ones for this. But if you really need to update your wardrobe, check at second hand thrift stores first. There could be some really good finds there for a fraction of the prices from name brand stores.

Rake leaves and turn them into compost.

Check doors and windows for cracks, wear and tear or deterioration. The gush of cold weather can be prevented from stripping into your homes by making sure that these openings are tight when sealed.

Check insulation, particularly if you have an attic and if your house is decades older. Regularly doing this can reduce costs on heating bills. If possible, have a thermostat to efficiently control the temperature inside the house.

Use air conditioners less. Unplug the thing if you must.

Since the nights are longer, you’re going to have to use indoor lights often. Change to more energy-efficient lighting over incandescent bulbs to help reduce wastage.

Check the tires of your car for worn tread and tire pressure. More care and vigilance is needed now for road safety especially since roads will most like get icy in the days to come.
