Phoenix and its Hybrid Taxi Fleets
A taxicab company in Phoenix, Arizona becomes the second cab service in the United States to operate and drive passengers around the city with the use of a hybrid car for all of their services. The company, aptly named, Clean Air Cabs, is composed of about 26 units of Toyota Hybrids. The company plans to expand this to about 200 by next year.
This move by Clean Air Cabs definitely helps the environment in a great big way. Because of this, itd help is worth a small tree planting forests in Brazil.
The first company to do this is found in Arlington, Virginia called the EnviroCab.
Some taxicab companies all over the country already make use of hybrid cars, without completely removing older models. For instance, Yellow Cab in San Francisco have hybrid car service as early as 2005, on top of the regular service. New York has made this mandatory at one point, but has failed in implementation.
It is expected that this would significantly gain with other services in the following years, especially since there is an expected federal action that will mandate all cities to adapt an all-hybrid taxi service, with the Kerry-Boxer climate change bill already running in the Senate.
