New York To Charge Extra For Bottled Water

bottled-water Beginning October 31st, the state of New York will begin charging an extra 5-cent deposit fee for bottled water purchases. This move is under the “Bigger, Better Bottle Bill” or the Refundable Container Act (Bottle Bill). This means that consumers will have to pay extra when purchasing this, but they will get the refund if they recycle this at redemption centers.

With this new law, the government expect to raise about $115 million in revenue. It has been noted that at least 28 billion water bottles get sold every year, with 8 our of 10 of these bottles ending up in the landfill.

California, Connecticut and Oregon are also planning to implement this law in their own state in the near future.
