Target offers Cash for Plastics

imagesAt least two big retails stores are coming up with a decent incentive that may accomplish two things: assist consumers and help save the environment. Target and CVS, both very recognized and frequented by the general American buying public, are offering a cash incentive program for any of their customers who would prefer not to use plastic bags for the items they have bought.

Target, in fact, has already started with this earlier this year, with 100 stores across the country. Customers have received a 5-cent discount for every reusable bag. So far, this has resulted in at least 58% decrease in the use of plastic bag, which is a significant result. By November 1st, this program will now be implemented in Target’s 1,700 stores.

CVS, meanwhile has come up with a special rewards program that will have members earning points for every time they shop using reusable bag. The customer earns $1 every fourth shopping trip, which may be used as part of a coupon discount.
