Have A Green Thanksgiving!
Of all the holidays to celebrate, Thanksgiving seems to be the one without so many frills that may be environmentally harmful. Except for all the food, and the clean-up that goes with it, Thanksgiving is all about families gathering together and less about the commercial aspect of it. Which means, there are no decorations to stress over and no presents or treats to prepare.
Here are some ways to celebrate a Green Thanksgiving:
- The only major thing you need to prepare for decorations is perhaps a clean house and an organized backyard and you do this a few days before relatives come over, of course. Rid your house of the junk, but double check if you can use some of this junk as decorations, so you won’t actually have to buy anything anymore. In the center of decorating is the table setting. I recommend using stuff you pick up in the yard or your own kitchen for this, such as twigs, berries, acorn and fruit.
- Organic is the best way to go with food. Make sure to get the steroid free turkey. Make your reservations early as this seems to disappear in thin air right away.
- Do away with paper and plastic utensils. Use your best china and silverware. This is a grand family feast, not a children’s party. And stop adding more trash to your pile with the papers and plastics.
- Get green liquid soap for the clean-up afterwards. To make this task easier, clean up with your whole family afterwards.
Have a happy one!
