Tis The Season of Giving Without Actually Giving Stuff
Christmas comes with the spirit of giving indeed. But are you aware that you can actually do this without ever giving away any item? It’s simpler and so much more greener this way. There are no wrappers to throw away and no hassle in the shopping mall. How is this possible?
Here are some suggestions:
Get gifts from Changing The Present. It’s a non-profit website that gives gifts on your behalf to those that really need it, like a sweater for the homeless…simple things like this. Yes, it’s charity. What better way to celebrate Christmas! Each gift will have an attached card with the name of the person donating it.
Adopt an Apple Tree. As they say, it keeps the doctors away. While orchards are abundant, maintenance of it is costly. Your adoption pledges will help apple farms continue. Adoption is possible via My Eco Farmer. If you’re not too fond of apples, you can probably adopt a different type of tree.
Offer to clean someone’s house. Seriously, that would be one of the greatest gifts to get, especially after the holiday celebration (or maybe before, so that the house is clean and cheery for visitors, huh?). You can pool your family together and offer to clean Nana’s house. But you also don’t have to do it. You can hire someone like the Maid Brigade.
Plan a trip to a National Park. I don’t think people do this often enough anymore, unless you’re a true blue tourist. Schedule a time when everyone in your family and close circle of friends are going to be together. Offer to pay for some of the expenses and expect a great time!
