Celebrating a Green Christmas
With all the merrymaking and stress combined, it would be so easy to forget to practice green living. But we all know, we have to do our very best. This lifestyle doesn’t have to pause because it’s the holidays.
Below are some tips to observe green living this Christmas:
1. Decorate using homemade Christmas ornaments. This could be a project you can do together with the whole family, which should eventually become a tradition. And then you can keep the ornaments you have made for next year, too. Ideas to use as ornaments: old baby booties, old tiny toys, charm bracelets or earrings you are no longer using…the possibilities are endless.
2. Use recycled gift wrappers. We have some other suggestions for wrapping your gifts the eco-friendly way. You should also recycle packages and wrappers of those gifts you receive, including the gift cards.
3. Get online. Instead of buying at stores, why not shop online? Instead of sending out cards, why not send out e-cards? You help reduce waste by doing this. Staying at home and being able to buy gifts online at the same time, means not having to use your car. Sending an e-card, instead of the traditional card on paper, saves the rainforest.
4. Use LED lights. You could do so much just by changing your lights to LED, which cuts down your energy to about 90%. Christmas LED lights are available at any store outlets, such as Target or Costco.
5. Dishes can pile up during Christmas dinners. Keep the cost and waste down by waiting for everyone to finish and give the washing one go, than to wash the dishes during separate times.
