Keeping the Air Clean In Winter
I like the cold air that the holiday season blows. It makes sleeping a lot more conducive, which is why bears are not the only one hibernating during this time. I like that you can do a lot of activities and still feel fresher, compared to when doing it in the heat of summer. Although, this doesn’t mean that if you don’t sweat and feel the heat and dirt soiling your skin, the air is still fine. Sometimes, air quality in the cold of winter isn’t the best. You may already be breathing polluted air indoors and wouldn’t know it because everything just feels comfortable.
If you are using air filters in the household, you have to regularly change this or have it cleaned at least four times a year. If you do this, you reduce the amount of contaminants and toxic air around you.
If you use combustible appliances, you have to make sure that these are still in order. If the fireplace hasn’t been cleaned and check for years, it should be done immediately, before you begin letting it work again. You never know the kind of contribution you bring to your environment with an unmaintained fireplace.
If someone is a smoker in your house, make sure to take the necessary steps to prevent smoke from seeping through other rooms in the house. You could just designate one outdoor area specifically for this. It’s healthier for the kids in the house, too .
If you have the budget, you can install a detector for carbon monoxide. Ideally, you can place this in the living room or kitchen. This is precaution for your own good. Carbon monoxide is harmful and deadly to those who have injected lots of it.
