New Year’s Day Tips To Handle Leftovers
Everyone gains a pound or two during the holiday season, as food is forever abundant. There is one more holiday left, one last party to prepare for: New Year’s Eve. This year, though, I am vowing to keep it light and simple and welcome the year by cost-cutting and reducing waste.
For one thing, I’m going to have to recycle some dishes and I encourage you to do the same. If you have plenty of left-overs from Christmas, I’m pretty sure you have these stocked on the fridge. You can either serve these again or improvise by adding a few ingredients to alter their flavor.
I am also going to serve the food gifts I have received over the holidays. I still have a couple of ham and cheese left, and some fruit cake, too. There is no use in cooking new dishes, when there are still plenty of extra items in the fridge. Because… what would you do with the leftovers when guests and families have long gone back home and back to their daily routines after the holidays?
Speaking of guests, I know plenty of them will be going home with a doggie bag. That should help us trim down the extra food. And rather than leaving the food to spoil, we could end up donating the extra food to homeless shelters or rehabilitation centers. This is actually an idea a friend gave me and our families may be doing this together.
We’re doing our best to cut down on fat, as well… so many of the food we will be serving should be fat free.
What’s your New Year’s Day plan for cutting down this year?
