Health and our Earth
Mankind as we know it has made quite a progress in the fight against global warming. We have a large selection of changes and all are very positive. There are green hotels, cars, computers, homes and even resorts, but never have we heard of a green environmentally friendly hospital, until now. Sweden is currently in progress with a Green-Friendly hospital hoping to be the first of its kind to receive an LEED gold certificate.
Preparations are due to take place this summer with the end result being shown hopefully during 2015. The finished hospital will be carbon neutral with all the materials used being either renewable, durable, recyclable or even all three. The aim is to create something useful for all people with the smallest amount of environmental impact possible. Hospitals see more action than any other place, so why not find hope and cures in an Eco location.
Its not just Sweden that is seeing the need for greener hospitals. The USA is quick on the scene with already two hospitals in Michigan and more to follow. These buildings are all certified by the U.S Green Building Coalition which insures that everything used is non toxic, recyclable and completely green friendly.
Buildings which receive this mark of approval are carefully inspected to make sure everything meets the high standards they have set. Therefore you know the hospital you are entering has made almost no damage to the planet during its construction, and now while it is functional with staff and patients. This is another positive move for our planet.
