Top Eco Cities

The results are finally in. The 50 Eco-Cities have been announced to the public and it looks like Canada should be proud today with a total of 5 different cities making it in the list. They even claimed the number one spot with the beautiful city of Calgary. In 2006 the facts stated that over 1/3 of the population take a transit to work and leave the car at home.  Also over 35,ooo walk to work everyday. These figures have grown considerably every year. You also have the water treatment and various Eco plans coming up which make it the current top Eco-City.

The number 2 spot went to Honolulu.  With its large selection of Eco hotels, stores, nature trails and lifestyles its really a great place for tourists to visit and enjoy some clean non toxic air away from busy cities. Locals love the green friendly label and many special Eco adventure trips have been put together to keep the reputation alive and the city healthy.

Other honorable mentions include, Ottawa, Helsinki, Wellington, Minneapolis, Adelaide, Copenhagen, Kobe, Oslo and Stockholm. There is quite a mixture in the end result. They all have many things in common however, less pollution less carbon footprints, saving energy, saving water and a general feel for nature.

The important thing about statistics like this is it really shows people what one city can accomplish together no matter the size or the wealth. All you need is love for your environment and city. If everyone was to do their part then big differences will really stat to show, for the better.

Transit systems will be a huge thing for the US if we decide to increase this mode of transportation. Unfortunately tax payers have been very cautious about paying for this. However the benefits for the environment would be great.
