California Seeks Reformulation of Household Cleaners
A new regulation has been passed in the state of California seeking changes in the way household cleaning products are made. Currently, these products contain volatile organic compounds which are highly reactive solvents and results to a lot of wastes and emission. But with the new standards set, the local government aims to cut down on its emission by at least 7 tons per day. According to reports, that is like doing away with about 500,000 cars in the state.
The California Air Resources Board is expecting many companies will comply with this and a period adjustment of about three years is to take place. The board is aggressively serious about getting manufacturers committed for this.
Some companies have already been complying, in fact, but it’s those glass and furniture cleaners which may take a drastic reformulation measure. The process is not easy and may require new technology which hasn’t even been invented.
