Transform Your Bathroom Into A Green One

I got this idea from a friend’s bathroom. If it was possible to fall in love with a bathroom, then I was head over heels in love with hers.

It was the perfect sanctuary for relaxation that I was inspired to copy it and turn my bathroom into a “green” room, too.

And I don’t mean just the colors or the interiors. She had a fully efficient room, which makes use of sustainable materials and conserves other resources.

Here’s what we all can do to turn our bathroom into a “green bathroom”:

1. Flushing is the biggest source of water consumption in the bathroom. Installing a water displacement device will help cut this down and you can save gallons by doing so. Here’s how it’s supposed to work:

“A water displacement device for water storage vessels such as toilet tanks, the device comprising a perforated plastics bag including a super-absorbent polymer in granular form which, when wetted, expands to up to two hundred times its pre-absorption volume. The bag may be weighted and may be placed in a toilet tank where it expands to displace between two and five litres of water within a toilet tank otherwise containing at least nine litres of water, thereby reducing wasteful water consumption.”

I’m told you can fashion a homemade one yourself using plastic jug and gravel.

2. Put a recycling container in the bathroom. Throw in your old shampoo bottles, lotion bottles and other similar beauty products. What it can do is to help make the bathroom smell better, for a certain period of time. When the container is full, you can then bring this to the recycling center where they will have more use for it.

3. Use cloth towels instead of tissue paper. In my friend’s bathroom, you can hardly find any tissue paper. The cloth towels are easily washable and can be left to hang dry, in a matter of minutes.
