What Can You Do With Worn Out Converse or Nike Shoes?
Do you have any Converse or Nike rubber shoes that you no longer use and cannot be donated or given away because these are too worn out? Please don’t throw those away just yet. You can donate the shoes to recycling centers instead, where they will make use of it and create a new pair of shoes, a track where runners can enhance their skills or a basketball court for athletes to play on.
The program is called the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe and the Converse Reuse-A-Shoe initiative. This is something that Nike and Converse offers all around United States. You may have already spotted bins outside their stores that accepts your drop-offs of worn out pairs for recycling.
According to the website the shoes that they receive all go to Nike’s recycling facilities in Tennessee and Belgium, where they will be stripped and used as raw material in either rubber, foam or fiber form. These materials are then turned into outsoles such as with the Nike Pegasus or the Jordan XX3, or as zipper pulls, midsoles or cushions found in many sports and exercise gears.
If your local Nike or Converse still do not have the drop box, you can mail in your worn out shoes to:
Nike Grind Processing
3552 Avenue of Commerce
Memphis, TN 38125
International consumers or those based in Europe can mail in their shoes to the Belgium facility:
RAS/IOK afvalbeheer
ATTN: Els
Ambachtstraat 4A
2450 Meerhout
Belgium
Mailed shoes are limited to 10 pairs at a time only.
For more information on this program, please read through the Nike Reuse-A-Shoe Website.
