Clothing Swap Parties
Summer is here! And people are going to party!
If you have done your spring cleaning a few months back and have a box full of clothes you don’t know where to put, this summer is probably the best time to organize a clothing swap party among our friends.
I’ve had the pleasure of going to one, despite not being able to contribute something (I was an invited friend of a friend, told at the last minute). But I did go home with a used top and a few accessories which I think were awesome finds. I didn’t have to go shopping — which is good for my wallet. And I helped someone else clear their junk out and make use of what they have— which is good for the environment.
Organizing a clothing swap party is typically like any parties you would organize in the backyard. Except that you would have to require friends to bring over their scraps, and turn them into treasures for someone else.
The host will provided the venue and food. Or another can contribute in the food as well and bring their own share. To keep the party going, once in a while, the host will have to pick an item from the clothes that have been brought in, much like an auction, except no one is really bidding for money.
Or if you want people to mingle more than to arrange for an exchange deal, the items can be put right up on display right away, in racks or stacks, and people can just pick whatever they want and sign up for it.
Be creative. Be ingenious about your swap parties. I assure you, it’s going to be fun!
