Green Initiatives no Plastic Bag Day

There is nothing more refreshing to green activists eyes than when a good step forward occurs, especially when traveling across country. Malaysia is the latest country to help restore faith against global warning when I witnessed the remarkable popularity and continued success of the no plastic bag day which happens every Saturday without fail.

This green campaign was initiated by the Malaysian government back in October of 2010. The idea was to promote awareness of the planet and the issues faced, but also to show the people than its not necessary to constantly use plastic. On these special Saturdays most shoppers will bring recyclable bags and if you forget something you have to pay 0.20 ringgit which is far from desirable and encourages the use of re-usable bags even further.

This Eco Saturday takes place throughout the entire country and has received worldwide praise since it began. Plastic is a very big problem for planet earth so initiatives like this from Malaysia help to bring this issue into the spotlight and show people that animals, the ocean, water supplies and more will suffer greatly if as a race we continue to dispose of bags carelessly without a further thought.

All it takes is some thought in relation to actions having consequences and then planning for future shopping events with reusable bags. Not only will it save money in the longterm, but they are also stronger, can handle more load, and best of all they are planet friendly! Its the little actions that really make a difference.
