Zero Packaging Grocery To Open in Austin
Brothers Lane, a company managed by three brothers — Christian, Patrick and Joseph — is opening the very first package free grocery store sometime this October in Austin, Texas.
The concept behind this store is really something else. Shoppers won’t find a lot of the items packed in individual containers, but instead, you would have to bring your own if you wanna shop here. This eliminates disposing cans, cartons and other containers to the trash, thus reducing wastes and helping the environment.
The store does have disposable bags for shoppers to use, in case they forget to bring their own containers. And they will have everything you need, much like a regular grocery store, except — no junk food.
The name of the store is In.gredients and according to one of the brothers, some 40% of wastes from the grocery actually comes from packaging and it’s high time we take a look and evaluate what this does to our environment.
“Truth be told, what’s normal in the grocery business isn’t healthy for consumers or the environment. In addition to the unhealthiness associated with common food processing, nearly all the food we buy in the grocery store is packaged, leaving us no choice but to continue buying packaged food that’s not always reusable or recyclable”
The brothers are still trying to get more funding for the store, but I do say they have something really good going on here. Hopefully, it does become a success and would be followed suit by the rest of the stores all over the world.
