US Politics and the Environment

It looks like the eco-friendly movement in the United States is going to be getting a large shot in the arm over the course of the election campaign. With both McCain and Obama having chosen their running mates, it is time for the actual presidential campaign to get started. The presidential campaign will largely be based on energy and of course the link between the environment and energy is one that is obvious to both parties at this point in time.

At the same time as the environment appears to be a big issue however, eco-friendly lifestyles are not really getting a lot of positive attention from the candidates. McCain and Obama appear to be jostling with each other over the issue of drilling at the moment without really illustrating to Americans what they individually can do to help the situation go forward. Considering the number of eco-friendly products that have been discussed on this website and the number of lifestyle changes that are both eco-friendly and not really that damaging to the average American’s way of life that have also been covered in Eco-Friendly Tip, that is something that is a bit disappointing.

Only time will tell if this changes over the course of the campaign, but the optimist in me would take the fact that both parties are talking about the environment as a positive step from the last election.
