Innovation is often fueled by the desire to solve real-world problems. For Kenno Michael M. Uy, this drive stems from his deep connection to the coconut farming industry and his commitment to sustainability. As one of the inventors of Earth Board—a Coir-reinforced Bio-Based High-Density Polyurethane Composite for Structural Panels—he is set to showcase his groundbreaking invention at the 50th International Exhibition of Inventions Geneva (IEIG) from April 9 to 12, 2025.
A Sustainable Solution from Agricultural Waste
Uy’s Earth Board transforms coconut farming waste into durable, moisture-resistant, and environmentally friendly structural panels. This innovation offers a sustainable alternative to traditional wood and synthetic boards, reducing deforestation while generating economic opportunities for farmers.
His startup, Lesstics Inc., focuses on repurposing waste materials such as coconut coir and single-use plastics into high-performance construction materials. By utilizing agricultural byproducts, Uy not only addresses the environmental waste crisis but also supports a circular economy, creating long-term benefits for local communities.

Empowering Farmers and Promoting Green Construction
The Earth Board aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including poverty reduction, responsible consumption, and climate action. By offering coconut farmers a new revenue stream, it enhances financial stability while reducing dependence on deforestation-driven resources.
The innovation’s broad applications span eco-conscious construction, furniture manufacturing, and waste management. Through resource efficiency and sustainable practices, Earth Board represents a shift towards greener, more responsible manufacturing and development.
Global Recognition at the 50th IEIG
With the support of the Technology Application and Promotion Institute (DOST-TAPI), Uy’s invention has reached the commercialization stage through the Expanded Venture Financing Program (EVFP). DOST-TAPI’s Science and Technology Promotion for International Contest and Exhibits (SPICE) Program provides a platform for Filipino innovations like Earth Board to gain global recognition and attract potential investors.
Uy sees this event as an opportunity to not only promote his innovation but also inspire collaboration in the sustainability sector.
“Our invention is not just about innovation—it’s about solving poverty, reducing environmental waste, and advancing sustainable construction. By investing in our technology, you support coconut farmers, prevent deforestation, and contribute to a circular economy.” — Kenno Michael M. Uy, Founder of Lesstics Inc.
As Uy prepares to present Earth Board to the world, his journey underscores how purpose-driven innovation can create lasting social and environmental change, proving that sustainability and progress go hand in hand.
