Namibia’s Orange Basin discoveries

In 2025, Rhino announced multiple exploration successes, including the Sagittarius-1X and Capricornus-1X wells on Block 2914. Light oil tests at Capricornus-1X yielded impressive flow rates of over 11,000 stock tank barrels per day, further validating Namibia’s offshore potential.

The company also launched the Volans-1X drilling campaign on Block PEL 85, involving 1,200 meters of drilling in partnership with Halliburton Namibia, reinforcing its focus on local content and skills development.

To strengthen its operations, Rhino Resources entered a farmout agreement with Azule Energy in December 2024, bringing capital and technical expertise to support further exploration.

South Africa’s upcoming drilling campaign

Beyond Namibia, Rhino is preparing a six-well drilling program in South Africa’s Karoo Basin, scheduled for 2026. The initiative targets natural gas, helium, and hydrogen resources, offering new opportunities to diversify South Africa’s energy mix.

This program is expected to bolster domestic energy security and create new pathways for industrial development, positioning South Africa as a growing player in the global energy market.

According to Tomás Gerbasio, VP of Commercial and Strategic Engagement at the African Energy Chamber, Rhino’s discoveries in Namibia and planned activities in South Africa highlight Africa’s potential to lead in deepwater and unconventional energy plays.

At AEW 2025, Rhino Resources will engage with policymakers, investors, and stakeholders to advance projects, secure partnerships, and showcase Southern Africa’s role as a global energy exploration hub.
