Seattle Coffee Gear Launches Machine Trade-In and Recycle Program
This is a great business idea I can really get behind! Seattle Coffee Gear has recently announced that they’ve launched a trade-in and recycle program for used espresso machines and grinders – how cool is that?!
This is the only national service of its kind, and the trade-in and recycle program gives consumers interested in upgrading their espresso or grinder machines an option – by trading in the used machines, consumers can offset the cost of their purchase with a store credit toward a newer model, too.
Awesome!
In most cases, the machines that are traded in will be thoroughly refurbished and resold to someone else at a discounted cost, which extends the life of the machine. Sometimes the cost to refurbish the machine will outweigh its resale value, so Seattle Coffee Gear will recommend that the machine be recycled. The recycle process involves breaking the machine down into component parts, determining which of them are reusable in other machines and then recycling those that are no longer functioning.
Seattle Coffee Gear is always researching ways to recycle as much of the machine as possible.
Explains Victor Gehlen, Seattle Coffee Gear’s founder:
“We were receiving tons of calls from customers about trade-ins and from folks who weren’t sure if it was okay to simply throw their old machine away. Repairing and refurbishing machines has become a big part of our business, as people choose to work on their existing machines instead of buying new ones in the current economic climate. We decided to take it an extra step and offer an environmentally-friendly aspect to the service so that machines that cannot be repaired aren’t just ending up in the trash.”
