Greenpeace activists and volunteers joined thousands at the annual LoveLaban Pride Festival on Saturday, June 28, bringing a strong message of environmental justice to UP Diliman in Quezon City. Their presence marked the third straight year the organization took part in the largest Pride event in Southeast Asia, uniting queer advocacy and climate activism on a vibrant platform of love, resistance, and intersectional justice.

This year’s theme emphasized how the climate crisis disproportionately affects marginalized communities, including LGBTQIA+ individuals who often lack access to essential recovery services during extreme weather events. Greenpeace Philippines highlighted this urgent reality, calling for accountability from giant oil and gas corporations who have long profited from pollution while passing on the costs of the climate crisis to the world’s most vulnerable populations.

Greenpeace Pushes for Polluters Pay Pact at Pride

At the heart of Greenpeace’s 2025 Pride participation was the Polluters Pay Pact, a global initiative that seeks to hold major fossil fuel companies financially responsible for the damage they’ve caused. Volunteers collected signatures and rallied attendees to join the growing call for justice. They amplified the message that it is not enough to celebrate diversity—governments must also take real action to protect those most affected by environmental disasters, especially queer people whose identities compound their exposure to systemic discrimination.

Greenpeace stressed that the burden of climate change must no longer fall on the shoulders of the least responsible. Instead, the industries and political systems that enable large-scale environmental destruction must be held to account. As Pride celebrations filled the streets with color and courage, Greenpeace reminded everyone that the fight for climate justice is also a fight for human rights—and that LGBTQIA+ voices must be at the forefront of this global movement.
