One Carbon World (OCW) will serve as the official climate impact partner of the Carbon Markets Africa Summit (CMAS), scheduled for Oct. 22–23 in Johannesburg.
OCW, a not-for-profit helping organizations reduce carbon emissions, will measure the event’s footprint and provide data-driven insights to improve sustainability. The summit will bring together Africa’s carbon market stakeholders, from early movers and regulators to development partners and investors.
Measuring the CMAS footprint
OCW Africa Director Madeleine Garlick said the partnership will allow organizers to track the summit’s emissions and demonstrate year-on-year progress. She added that VUKA, the event organizer, is “leading by example” by committing to sustainability standards at its events.
Partnerships to grow Africa’s carbon markets
Garlick emphasized that partnerships across businesses, communities, and project implementers are vital to scaling Africa’s carbon markets. OCW will highlight this message at CMAS, pointing to collaboration as the way to ensure the benefits of carbon trading reach grassroots levels.
OCW CEO Andrew Bowen noted the group’s experience in measuring emissions for global events and said the partnership would strengthen Africa’s role in credible climate action.
